For the last couple of years I have been working on the idea of building a war-machine armor.
In the beginning I start with foam which lacked detail and the longevity was limited. I got as far as the torso and I moved on.
Then I started working with pepakura, resin, fibreglass. Very messy, very limited range of motion and temperature limits living in Canada.
AH METAL!!!
Metal sounds cool right. I mean, I have a background in the jewelry arts. So I thought I wold give this a try. After seeing a few suit in metal, aluminum or steel I noticed limitations in regards to movement. So I kicked into the research and development stage. How can I do this?
What if I made an endo skeletal frame that plates can attach to. By doing this I can replace or upgrade parts.
So far I made of cardboard working abs with full mobility. A full functional glove as well as boots.
The last while I have redesigned my helmet, have acquired many tools. Educated myself in hammer forming and aluminum metalcasting. Not to mention collected alot of aluminum.
Now my trouble is my ignorance in regards to not knows reference names for parts. Robotic parts to be specific. Today I had ordered 3 books on the subject and hopefully it will cover exactly what I need. I can't exactly walk into a shop and say give me a swivel thingies that has an eye on both ends. I'm not looking for anyone to give me all the answers I just need to know where to look. So frustrating knowing what you want to do but just don't know what to ask for. Friends raz me about this project but I just can't quit. I think about this project constantly and I think it really can be special. Thanks folks for making it this far...George
