Hey, so I'm trying to take a stab at Souls series character Dark Sun Gwyndolin, pictured here ...as you can see, the poor guy's essentially got snakes for legs. I've seen cosplays without it and they just never feel quite right without that defining feature, so I figured at first I could go with a common model you see for animatronic tails and whatnot, but I don't know if there's a better way to create this effect or if those builds would even work for the aforementioned desired goal in the first place. Any help/pointers/guidance at all would be great, because it feels like the missing piece to the otherwise solid costume construction I already have. Thanks!

Hi and welcome!
One way you might be able to do it is to make it in a similar fashion to Sammael's tentacles in Hellboy. The way they were constructed each tentacle had a series of servos in it that were programmed to move in a random pattern. The biggest problem I see is the size and length of the snakes as it would require some very strong servos.
The cable driven idea could work but I think it would be difficult to drive the cables.

I realise this post is really old but is there a tutorial for the tentacles in Hellboy anywhere?

No tutorial that I am aware of. I've seen a couple of Sammael costumes but not any with moving tentacles. The general idea is you link multiple servos together by connecting the output shaft of one servo to the body of the following servo. By doing this you can get multiple points of articulation along a pretty short length. The trick is engineering the pivots correctly as servos don't like to have a side load applied to the output shaft. There are a few companies that sell servo mounts that greatly improve the load bearing capacity of the servo shaft. The biggest drawback to linking servos like this is that it can get really expensive, really fast- especially compared to a cable control mechanism.
