I am making articulated bird wings for a cosplay, but I'm not sure how to use a dimmer to wirelessly control the wingspan by sending a signal to some mechanism. Does anyone know how I can achieve this? Thank you. This is what I want to use to control the wingspan: There are different ways I can go about making the actual mechanism to expand the wings: gears, pulleys, etc.

Sorry but I don't have any experience with using that type of AC circuit dimmer in a DC circuit- most costume animatronics are powered with a DC source like a battery pack. Normally in a DC circuit a dimmer is referred to as a potentiometer or variable resistor- typically this is seen as a rotary or sliding knob (similar to what you have but much smaller.) When you connect that to an arduino input pin you get a variable input value and then you can map a servo, linear actuator or motor speed to that value. I wrote up a guide on how to do that here- www.instructables.com/id/Arduino-animatronics-make-your-awesome-costumes-m/#step9If you read through that guide and it doesn't make sense let me know and I'll help out as best as I can!
