I have a Manga ch aracter with big oval eyes that needs eyelids. I have been looking through this site and wonderful things but would anyone know how I could accomplish this with this board? The character image is below

There are lots of different ways you could do this but the usual method is to create a hinged eyelid that pivots and then a servo rotates it forward and back. Do you have a picture that shows how the head is constructed? Knowing what the head construction looks like will help a lot in helping you figure out a mechanism.

I wish I did right now but I am in the preliminary planning stages at the moment. I didn't even know DIY animatronics existed until a few weeks ago. I did a small cal sculpture of the head since I needed to see this in 3D to plan dimensions. I am currently having issues with the mouth (another topic) but the eyes I feel I have a solution to or at least know where to look and it appears this forum works well. Thanks for responding. I think my biggest question is how you would program this to be sort of that appears responsive to stimuli. I have seen some costumes online using this board in action and it appears the eyes blink with some rhyme or reason and not just randomly.

Traditionally you would have the eyes blink in a timed sequence that is defined by your code. You could also use a sensor to trigger the eye blink- there are lots of methods you could use to control the eyes blinking relative to stimulus. You could use something like a distance sensor so the eyes could blink relative to the distance from an object or use a photocell so they blinked relative to the amount of light available. You could also use a bend sensor in a glove so you just bend your finger to make the eyes blink- you do this by setting a threshold value for the sensor in the code.

I get requests from people all the time to design one off eye rigs. maybe my services may be of interest to you? www.innerbreed.co.uk/#!eye-mechs/c11qt some of the designs are maybe a little too complex for your project however, i do cater for all.. If you would like some concepts done then let me know and ill see what we can come up with.. "I needed to see this in 3D to plan dimensions" you are a perfect candidate for our work... theinnerbreed@hotmail.co.uk
